Jack Swingler

Jack Marvin Swingler, 87, a long time Wacoan, beloved father and grandfather died peacefully on Monday, July 20, 2009 in Austin. Funeral services will be 11am on Thursday, July 23rd at Lake Shore Baptist Church, 5801 Bishop in Waco with the Rev. Dorisanne Cooper and the Rev. Sharlande Sledge officiating. Burial will follow in the Herds Prairie Cemetery in Petteway, Texas. Visitation will be on Thursday morning from 9 to 10am at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Jack was born to Marvin and Zoe (Petteway) Swingler on January 26, 1922. He grew up in Bremond, Texas and graduated from Bremond High School. He joined the Air Force, serving his country in the pacific during World War II. He married Lewise Blunt on November 10, 1951 in Mexia, Texas. They were married for 55 years until she passed away in 2006. They had three children, Nancy, Jack Jr. and Laura. He moved his family to Waco in 1961 and lived there for the next 46 years.

Jack loved talking and joking around with people and spent his life in sales representing Snap On Tools, Tom's Candy and Morton's Foods. His easy, simple manner appealed to those he worked with and everyone he met. Jack worked tirelessly his entire life and never seemed to sit still, always having the energy to help family, friends and customers.

A child of the Great Depression, he enjoyed providing well for his family while teaching them how to live frugally and save for the future. He adored his grandchildren, William, Samantha ,Graham, Schillaci of Dallas, Otto and John Henry Swingler of Austin. He enjoyed hearing of their many accomplishments. He was a member of the Lake Shore Baptist Church in Waco, Texas. He spent the last 11/2 years in Austin to be near his son.
He will be missed by his family, many friends and neighbors.
