Jakie Rector

Jakie Lee Rector, 83, of Waco, passed away Thursday, April 12, 2006, at a local retirement center. Memorial service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, May 20 at OakCrest Funeral Home.


Jakie was born December 3, 1922 in Petrolia to Thomas and Ruby (Felts) Rector, and soon moved to Waco. He graduated from Waco High School in 1940. Afterwards, he joined the Army Air Corps and served as a pilot in WWII., being discharged as a First Lieutenant.

After the war, he graduated from Baylor University where he had received one of the first baseball scholarships. He was a retired salesman in the oil industry.
He was an avid fisherman and hunter. He enjoyed playing golf and always maintained a low handicap. He was a past president of the Woods Homeowners Association. He helped coordinate many of the Waco High School Class of 1940 reunions.

He is survived by a brother, Roger B. Rector of Houston; niece, Karen Guidry of Houston, and two nephews, Lee Rector of Indianapolis, Ind. and Craig Rector of Euless.
