James "Jim" Frederick Apsey, 68, of McGregor, passed away on Tuesday, July 4, 2006, at his home. The Lord took him home after a long, courageous battle against lung cancer.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, July 8, at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with Chaplain Patricia Patton officiating. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the service.
Jim was born March 13, 1938 in Grand Rapids, Mich., to Arthur and Iris (Hunt) Apsey. He married Christine Allensworth on May 8, 1965 in Fort Wayne, Ind. He proudly served as a sergeant in the U.S. Army. He moved to Waco in 1983 and worked as a telephone operator for the Waco VA Medical Center for 17 years until his retirement. He spent a total of 32 years in government service.
Jim loved spending time with his family. He enjoyed taking pictures of flowers, wildlife and wildflowers, and was skilled at making crafts. He liked golf and some sports. He was a great talker, and no one was ever a stranger to him.
He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur Apsey; stepmother, Doris Apsey; mother, Iris Gummo; step-father, Bill Gummo, and brother, Gary Apsey.
He is survived by his wife, Christine Apsey of McGregor; four daughters, Kimberly Heslin, and husband, Paul, Dawn Apsey of McGregor, Kellie Newland and husband, Dusty, of Waco, and Wendy Ekwall and husband, Kirby, of McGregor; and brothers, Bill Apsey and wife, Shar of Middleville, Mich., and Art Apsey and wife, Cindy of Columbia Falls, Mont., step-sisters, Sharon, Linda, and Cathy, and step-brother, Phillip, and 10 grandchildren.
