James Andrew Harwell, 85, of Woodway, passed away at his residence on Saturday, August 15, 2009 after a lengthy illness with Connie, his wife of 42 years at his side.

Graveside services with military honors will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, August 18, 2009, at Riesel Cemetery with Pastor Roy Marshall officiating. Visitation will be 6 p.m. - 8 p.m. Monday, August 17, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

James was born May 23, 1924 in Hallsburg, one of nine sons of Leslie and Annie Mae (Campbell) Harwell.

He was in the Marines during World War II, and proudly served on the battleships USS Tennessee and USS West Virginia. He worked in the Sears service department for 35 years before retiring. He loved to fish and hunt quail.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and five of his brothers, Homer, Marvin, Earl, Jack and Henry Harwell.

He is survived by his wife, Connie Barron Harwell; two daughters, Linda Schneider and husband, Chuck, of Destin, FL, and Gina George and husband, Jerry, of Lorena; son, Leslie Harwell and wife, Olga of Wimberly; three brothers, Douglas Harwell of Houston, Robert Harwell and wife, Lil of Knoxville, TN., and Billy Eugene Harwell and wife, Flo of Gun Barrel City; seven grandchildren, Bobby Schneider, Romy Hanna, Vicky Russell, Cody Harvey, Blake George, John Harwell, and Hallie VanManen; 13 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Harwell of Waco; brother-in-law, James Barron and wife, Pam of Axtell; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins; and beloved dog, Nicky.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Waco Humane Society Medical Fund, 2032 Circle Road, Waco, TX 76706.
