James Milstead, 65, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012, at the Olin E. Teague Veterans Medical Center in Temple. Funeral services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday, February 20, 2012 at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial with military honors will follow at Chapel Hill Cemetery. Visitation with his family will be 5 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday, February 19, 2012 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
James was born October 23, 1946 in Longview to George Milstead and Joy Johnson Milstead. He moved to Waco at an early age and attended Waco Public Schools. After graduating from high school, James went to serve his country in the US Army stationed in Vietnam from 1967 until 1969. Once he returned home, he worked in retail as the manager of a K Mart, Scribner and later at a Sam's Club in Oklahoma. In 1997, James opened a successful bar-b-que catering business by the name of Custom Catering in Durant, Oklahoma.
He was preceded in death by his father.
James is survived by his mother, Joy Milstead; daughters, Misty McMinn and Mandy Hines; his son, James Kegan Milstead and wife, Courtney; two sisters; and a host of nieces and cousins.
