James (Jim) F. Reeves, DDS died peacefully on Saturday, April 11, 2015 in Waco, Texas. 90 years young, Jim was a fifth-generation Texan, born January 25, 1925 in Waco, attended Waco public schools, and graduated from Baylor University and Baylor Dental School. While in dental school Jim met the love of his life, Laura Ann (Boo) Thompson of Keltys, Texas who he married December 21, 1948. Jim and Boo celebrated their golden wedding anniversary in 1998.
Jim practiced dentistry until 1998 and drove his 1966 Ford Mustang to work every day for 32 years. He served as president of the Waco Dental Association and as team dentist for the Baylor football team. At Baylor, he was a member of the NoZe Brotherhood and later enjoyed many years of membership in the Baylor Bear Club and Bear Foundation, as he supported the Bears through good times and bad. He also enjoyed golf, tennis, and sailing and the company of friends and family at Ridgewood Country Club, where he belonged for 61 years and served as chairman of the Ridgewood Yacht Club. Jim also enjoyed scuba diving, reading and current events, was a member of the Downtown Waco Kiwanis Club and the Sip Sup Supper Club.
Jim belonged to Austin Avenue United Methodist Church for 65 years and served on its Administrative Board, and served two years in the United States Navy.
Jim was preceded in death by his parents Thomas Jefferson Reeves and Ruth Scott Reeves, brother T. Joseph Reeves, sister Dorothy Reeves Kelley, wife Boo Reeves, and daughter-in-law Donna Rose Reeves. He is survived by his sons, James Francis Reeves, Jr. and John Randall Reeves, daughter-in-law Kathleen McCutcheon Reeves, and grandchildren Samuel, Laura Leigh, Annabel and Janie Reeves, who were his pride and joy.
Graveside services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday, April 18, 2015 at Oakwood Cemetery in Waco with Pastor Tim Jarrell officiating. Visitation will be 6 to 8 pm Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. in Waco.
