James Rufus Thrasher
James Rufus Thrasher, 77 of Waco passed away Wednesday, June 2, 2004 at his home. Graveside services are 10:oo am Saturday at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum with Brother Harley Gordon officiating. Visitation will be from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque.
Rufus was born on June 25, 1926 in Corsicana to John Henry and Tennie R. (Renfro) Thrasher. He married the love of his life Doris Jean Adair on July 20, 1946 in Elm Mott. Rufus was a member of the Beacon Hill Baptist Church here in Waco where he was a Deacon. He was a salesman for the Rainbow Bread Company for thirty two years and was a distributor for the Little Debbie Company for ten years. Rufus also served in the U.S. Army during WWII.
He is survived by his wife Doris of Waco; daughters, Lana Gibson and husband Neill of Waco, Nikkie Stratton and husband Ron of China Spring and Mitzi Hoover and husband Tom of Sachse; grandchildren, Leah Hamilton, Trisha Lapierre, Lacie Alford, Alisa Walpole, T.J. Hoover, Brandon Hoover and Jake Stratton; six great-grandchildren; sister, Helen Dawson of White Wright; several nieces and nephews; special friends, Darwin and Bertie Sowders and Vivian Rhodes.

He loved the Lord and was a devout Christian. Rufus was a loving husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend. He touched many people and loved to hunt and fish.
Rufus was preceded in death by his parents, two sisters and a brother.
