James Wood Henson, born February 21, 1936, passed away on May 7, 2024 at the age of 88.
He was preceded in death by his first wife of 50 years, Eleanor Henson.
He is survived by his current wife, Mary Evelyn Hupp;; a good friend and neighbor, Dennis Grimland; family friend, David Darwin; a nephew in Virginia; a sister in Denton, Texas.
James served his country proudly for 22 years in the National Guard and reserves. He retired as Sergeant First Class, E7. James also worked for the Texas Department of Public Safety for 35 years as a draftsman, designing, building and inspecting bridges all over the Waco area. He received multiple awards and certificates for his impeccable driving record durn his many years of employment with TxDOT.
In his spare time, James enjoyed watching Baylor sports of all kinds (football, basketball, volleyball, and softball). He also had a large collection of old stamps and loved all things history, especially historical battles, World War II, etc. In his spare time he liked to sit out on the front porch talking with neighbors passing by.
James was a member at Grace Temple Baptist Church in Waco.
