Lois Jane Brigham Littrell
November 19, 1920 – September 9, 2014
Jane Littrell, 93, of Waco passed away Tuesday, September 9, 2014. Funeral services will be held Friday September 12, at 3:00 pm at Waco Memorial Park.
Jane was born to Arthur Perry and Katherine Hentz Brigham in the front bedroom of their home in Iola, Kansas, on November 19, 1920. Iola was a great place to grow up. She had a dog named Peggy and her mom baked a pie almost every day. She graduated from Iola High School and Allen County Junior College and attended a year of nursing school in Kansas City, Missouri before marrying her high school sweetheart, Dr. Joe Littrell. She was a war time bride.
They moved to Waco in 1951 for Joe to practice Podiatry and to rear their young family. Jane was a stay- at- home mom and was very good at it. She was very active in the lives of her husband and five children.
Jane didn’t do much sitting around. She was a member of the Mother’s Club, at St. Mary’s and St. Louis Catholic Schools, and the Ladies’ Auxilary at St. Louis Catholic Church. She never hesitated to get up at 5:00 am to drive her sons to early mass to be altar boys. She supported her sons in the Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, and daughters in Brownies and Blue Birds. She never missed a Little League ball game. She was a Richfield and Reicher High School Band Supporter.
Jane loved to play bridge and spent 25 years volunteering at Providence Hospital. She delivered Meals on Wheels. You didn’t have to twist her arm to go places. She loved to travel with her husband and family and friends and took many memorable trips even with screaming kids and a dog. After the kids were grown, she toured Europe and she and Joe cruised the Caribbean and often went to the Cayman Islands. She was a self-proclaimed “Chocoholic“ and a 27-year cancer survivor.
Jane always enjoyed the Waco Symphony but enjoyed cheering on the Lady Bears even more. She could bake a pumpkin pie that would knock your socks off.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 wonderful years, parents Arthur Perry and Katherine Brigham , brothers Arthur Perry Brigham, Jr, James Newton Brigham, and sister-in-law Ruth Brigham.
She is survived by her five children Martha Farlow and husband Jack of Ft Worth; Steve Littrell and wife Karen of Conway, Arkansas; Scott Littrell and wife Pam of Waco; Andy Littrell and wife Tracie of Waco; Laura Sheehy and husband Trip of Waco.
Jane had 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren. She will make heaven a better place.
A big hug and sincere gratitude to Janette, Sadie, Annie, and Janie, for their kindness, compassion and years of superb care giving.
