Janie Cuellar Garcia, 91, of Waco, went to be with her Lord Jesus Christ on October 23, 2023, from her home at Regent Care Center in Waco, Texas. A visitation will be held on Sunday, October 29, from 2-4pm at OakCrest Funeral Home located at 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX, and a memorial service will be held the following day at 1:30pm with Rev. Frank Alvarado officiating. Burial will follow at Rosemound Cemetery in Waco.
Janie was born on May 18, 1932, in San Antonio, Texas to parents, Ysidro and Ortencia Aguilar. On September 30, 1949, she married Melchor Cuellar in Waco where they settled among family and friends, and began raising their two children, Joe and Mary Ann. Janie at times worked more than one job to help support her family and was involved in the local Mutualista Hall where she loved spending time with family and friends. In her later years, Janie was a very involved and faithful member in various activities and ministries of the First Spanish Assembly of God Church on Clay Avenue in Waco, while readily serving up a glass of milk and homemade tortillas to any hungry grandchildren that might drop by.
Janie was preceded in death by her husband, Melchor Cuellar; and siblings, Vincenta Aleman, Robert Aguilar, and Mario Aguilar.
Janie is survived by her two children, Joe Cuellar and wife, Josie of Waco and Mary Ann Vaughn and husband, Greg of Lorena; brother, Martin Aguilar; sister Lupe Garcia; grandchildren, Ronnie Vaughn and wife, Jennifer, JR Cuellar and wife, Ashley, Chris Vaughn, Kristi Cuellar and fiancé, Duy Quoc Le, Diana Lashaway and husband, Jeff, and Michael Vaughn and wife, Katy. Surviving great-grandchildren include Zach Vaughn, Julian and Karina Sandoval, Mallory Sanchez, Allison Cuellar, Cannon and Elizabeth Shamburger, Lily, Ben, and Sam Lashaway, and Amorette and James Vaughn. She also is surviv ed by many nieces and nephews.
The pallbearers will be Ronnie Vaughn, JR Cuellar, Chris Vaughn, Michael Vaughn, Duy Quoc Le, and Julian Sandoval.
