Janie Gonzales, 86, of Waco, passed away Saturday, December 15, 2007 at her residence. Mass will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Tuesday at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Waco Memorial Park. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Janie was born in Bastrop to Simplicio and Josephine (Cortez) Perez, and has lived in Waco for over 50 years. She was married May 18, 1946 in Waco to Anastacio Gonzales, who preceded her in death in 1997. She was a machine operator for Gulf States Paper Company. She was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church and the Mutualista De Jornaleros.
She is survived by two daughters, Irene G. Rivera and husband, Miguel Perez, and Dora Torres and husband Abel, all of Waco; 2 sisters, Eulalia Rodriguez and husband, Rosendo of Bryan, and Candidad Becerra of Bryan; grandchildren, Angie Sanchez, Ruben Vasquez, Abel Torres, Vincent Torres, and Chris Rivera; several great-grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons: Sammy Nava, Ruben Vasquez, Jonathan Vasquez, Chris Rivera, Vincent Torres, and Abel Torres.
