Janis Jewel Williams was born February 18, 1932 to Rev. Clifton and Theressa Williams, their only child. She was a native of Waco, Texas. She joined Antioch Missionary Baptist Church early in her childhood and she was baptized by the late Dr. R.L. Bailey. She served her God and church faithfully in many leadership capacities.
She began her educational process at South Waco Elementary School and graduated from A.J. Moore High School. After graduation from high school, she attended Huston-Tillotson College, where she earned a degree in education. She married Mr. Raymond Nichols, a soldier, and she traveled with him abroad. They had one son, Steven Nichols. After returning from their last tour of duty in Germany, the couple returned to Waco. Mr. Nichols preceded her in death. Mrs. Nichols worked at the Waco Methodist Children's Home, and she taught school at South Waco Elementary for more than thirty years.
After retiring, she married Mr. J.B. Smith, a long time friend and fellow church member, who also preceded her in death.
She is survived by her son, Steven Nichols; her granddaughter, Marlakia McLennan; two grandsons, Mirun McLennan and Jason Brandon; loving goddaughter, Carla Brooks; and a host of other relatives and friends. She was dearly loved by all who knew her, and she will be definitely missed.
