Jason " Jay" Nichols, 39, of Rowlett, passed away Saturday, May 30, 2009 in Dallas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 3, 2009 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Chaplain Ryan Campbell officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.

Visitation will be 6 p.m. until 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Jay was born October 8, 1969 to David L. and Mary Ellyn Masteller Nichols in Oroville, California.

Jay grew up in Waco, and attended University High School where he played center on the Trojans football team until graduating in 1988. He married his high school sweetheart, Darlene Woycheshin Nichols, June 12, 1993.

Jay worked for the Sherwin Williams Company since 1990 starting out at the Waco Distribution Center. While there, he completed his bachelor's degree in business from the Hankamer School of Business at Baylor University in 2002. Jay advanced within the company by taking a position at the Garland manufacturing facility in 2007.

Jay was a fun loving man that had a hardworking attitude in everything he accomplished. He never lost sight of his goal following his liver/kidney transplant, even though his strength and will were tested over and over again.


Jay enjoyed playing golf, skydiving, and watching the Baylor Bears on the football field. Please join the family by wearing your Green and Gold attire in memory of him to the service.

He is preceded in death by mother, Mary Ellyn Nichols, grandmother, Kate Nichols, grandfathers, Harold Masteller and Joe Nichols; and brother, Charles Nichols.

Jay is survived by his wife, Darlene; son, Zachary, both of Rowlett; father, David Nichols of Waco; brothers, Les Stevens and wife, Elisia of San Antonio, Dave Nichols, Jr. of Morgan Hill California; sisters, Judy Haas and husband, Mike of Bismark, ND., Debbie Dewyer of Everett, WA.; grandmother, Jane Severance of Oroville, CA., and several nieces and nephews.

Pallbearers will be Dustin Gilmore, Trey Woycheshin, Taylor Woycheshin, Brian Ficklin, David McMullin and Dennis Lokey. Honorary pallbearers will be Rachel and Grace Stevens.

Following the service the family will be gathering at VFW Post 6008, 725 Sun Valley Blvd., Hewitt, TX 76643.
