Jay Butala, 93, of Waco, passed away Thursday, April 25, 2013 at St. Catherine Center. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10:00 a.m. Wednesday, May 1, at St. Jerome Catholic Church with Father Rakshaganathan Selvaraj as celebrant. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Rosary will be recited at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 30, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, followed by a visitation with the family.
Jay was born October 12, 1919 in Calumet, Michigan to Jacob and Marie Klobucher Butala. He proudly served his country in the US Army during WWII as a staff sergeant in the European Campaign. He was a member of the VFW 6008 in Hewitt.
He was employed as a salesman and later in management in the frozen food industry.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Jeanne A. Butala, who passed away October 30, 2010.
Jay is survived by four sons, Jay Butala and wife, Janet of Woodway, John Butala and wife, Josephine of Holman, Wisconsin, Steve Butala and wife, Felicia of Kailua, Hawaii and Mark Butala and wife, Sweden of Olympia, Washington; three daughters, Patty Butala of Wheaton, Illinois, Terese Peterson and husband, Gary of Onalaska, Wisconsin and Mary Kay Carlson and husband, John of Wheaton, Illinois; and seven grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be his sons and grandsons.
