J.D. Bruce, aged 76, of Waco, passed away Monday night, November 25, 2002, at his home surrounded by family and friends. Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 27, in the Chapel of OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., with Brother John Rainey officiating, assisted by Brother Bobby Driver. Graveside services will be at 1 p.m., Wednesday, at the Prairie Grove Cemetery in Mexia under the direction of OakCrest Funeral Home.
J.D. Bruce was born in Haskell on March 22, 1926, to James Andrew and Flora (Follis) Bruce. He was married to Nella Carlton on October 4, 1948 in Mexia. They have lived in the Waco area for 46 years. At the time of his death, he was an elder at the Southside Church of Christ. He was a retired diesel mechanic, and he had worked at both Downing Brothers and Young Brothers.
He leaves his wife of 54 years, Nella J. Bruce of Waco; three sons, Ronnie Bruce and his wife Nancy of Crawford, Donnie Bruce and his wife Melinda of China Spring, and Johnny Bruce and his wife Cindy of Magnolia; a daughter, Mrs. Connie Fuller and her husband Bob of Speegleville; and a special nephew, Bill Bruce of Alice; 12 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren.
His life was an example for all and he was admired and loved by all of his family, friends, and relatives. He will be missed by all.
Pallbearers will be his grandsons, Josh Bruce, Kevin Bullock, Daniel Bruce, Dustin Bruce, Devin Bruce, and Adam Fuller. Al Butler will be an honorary pallbearer.
