Jerrell Jones

Jerrell Lee Jones, Sr., 84, of Waco, passed away Thursday, Feb. 26, 2009. Graveside services with military honors will be 10 a.m. Tuesday, March 3 at the Central Texas State Veterans Cemetery in Killeen with Greg Brumit officiating.

Jerrell was born June 2, 1924 in Dawson to Milburn Jones and Alma Collins Jones. He entered the Navy in 1943. He received the Purple Heart while serving his country. Upon returning home from the service, he became a self employed painting contractor which he retired from after over 40 years of service. On January 12, 1948, he married Iris Baggett in Waco.

He was preceded in death by his parents; daughters, Cathy Bates and Kelly Thigpen; son, Jerrell Jones, Jr.; 2 brothers; and 2 sisters.

Jerrell is survived by his wife, Iris; sons, Larry Jones, Gary Jones and wife, Janice all of Waco; daughters, Bridgett Voss and husband, Billy of Lorena and Martha McClain of Washington; sisters, Colene Kromer and husband, Kelly of Lorena and Jeanette Thompson of Hewitt; 14 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren.
