Jerry Wayne Gordon, 69, a former longtime Waco resident, passed away Sunday, October 25, 2009 at his residence in Flatonia.

His life will be celebrated in a service 10 a.m. Wednesday, October 28, at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Allan Grant officiating.

Burial will be at Holy Cross Cemetery in Waco.

A rosary service led by Father Angelo Bertini will be 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 27, at OakCrest Funeral Home, followed by visitation with his family starting at 6:30 p.m.

Jerry was born February 2, 1940 in Hillsboro, and lived in Central Texas most of his life until he moved to Flatonia four years ago.

Throughout his life, Jerry always encouraged youth and helped by cooking at special events, coaching little league, serving as band booster president, and volunteering at many community based organizations. He was always ready to lend a helping hand. But most of all he loved his wife Nancy and his church, and he especially was honored to be a devoted Knights of Columbus member.

In Waco, he was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. He was a former Grand Knight of the council there and later was a Faithful Navigator of the 4th degree assembly.

He was just elected in June as Grand Knight of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Flatonia.

Jerry was a longtime farmer in Hill County before going to work for Plantation Foods. He worked there 18 years until he retired. He then went to work for Region 12 Education Service Center and retired from there in 2005.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Neta Sheffield Gordon and Goyie Gordon of Hillsboro.
