Jerry Powers

Jerry Richard Powers, 73, passed away in Waco, Texas on Monday, August 7, 2023.

Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00 P.M., Friday, August 18, 2023 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd., Waco, TX 76710. Graveside service will be 9:00 A.M., Saturday, August 19, 2023 at Blue Ridge Cemetery in Marlin, TX, 340 F.M. 1771 Blue Ridge, Texas 76661.


Born in Marlin, Texas on October 28, 1949, Jerry was the son of Richard Wilton Powers and Clara Marie Benke. Jerry possessed a sharp intellect and a wry, biting sense of humor. He enjoyed tennis, music from the ‘60s and ‘70s, and was very passionate about computer technology. In 1968, Jerry graduated from Marlin High School. He attended Texas Tech, and later attended the University of Texas at Dallas, majoring in computer technology. Jerry was a former employee of Sears, managing multiple stores in the Dallas area. He was also a former employee of AT&T (Southwestern Bell), where he worked in computer technology.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Bill Powers; and sister, Lisa Jobe.

Jerry is survived by his son, Scott Powers; siblings, Rodney and Laura Powers; sister-in-law, Dianne Powers; and brother-in-law, Mike Jobe. He is also survived by numerous nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend a special thanks to all the employees at Wesley Woods Rehabilitation and Healthcare. The very attentive and loving care they provided made Jerry’s stay there as pleasant as possible.

Friends and family are invited for food and fellowship following the service at El Charro in Marlin.
