Joan Amelia Brown, 81, Passed away on August 26, 2014 at the age of 81 in Waco, Texas. Born in Lewistown, Montana on June 28, 1933 to Jack E. and Violet L. Cox. She graduated from Billings High School in Montana and later moved to Lubbock, Texas where she attended Texas Tech University and played the alto saxophone in the marching band. She married in 1955 and moved to Dallas in 1961 where she raised and nurtured three children. In 1977 she moved with her husband to Lorena, Texas. Joan devoted her life to family and was a passionate active supporter and leader in the Girl Scouts and was a den mother for the Cub Scouts. She was a tireless volunteer in local school activities holding the office of president of the E.L. De Golyer Elementary School PTA and facilitated their annual Fun Fair fundraiser for the school. She had a love for humanity and volunteered for the American Cancer Society and gave to many other worthy causes. An enthusiastic fan of football, especially college football, she always looked forward to New Year’s Day bowl games. She was a selfless devoted loving wife, mother, daughter and sister who will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Carroll D. Brown. She is survived by her sons Christopher Brown of Dallas, Texas and Robert Brown and his wife Polly of Riesel, Texas and a daughter Tracey Wilson and her husband Garrick of Garland, Texas.

She will be buried next to her husband in Silverton, Texas. A memorial service will be held in the future. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to the Girl Scouts www.girlscouts.org.
