Joan Seeger

Joan H. Seeger, 76, of Woodway, passed away August 31, 2008 at her residence surrounded by her loving family.

Funeral services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday at Trinity Lutheran Church at Badger Ranch with burial to follow at Waco Memorial Park.

Joan was born July 16, 1932 in Eastern Prussia, where Poland, Lithuania and Russia came together before World War II started. Joan's faith in Jesus Christ along with the love and support of her family was her greatest gift in life.

She learned to sew by the age of 6. Joan's sewing skills proved invaluable during the war years as clothing was unavailable. After the war, she received formal training under a master dressmaker in Germany. In August of 1951, Joan, her parents and brother fled to the United States when the Russians took over. In 1954, she met Walter Seeger and in 1955, they were married in Waco.

Joan used her talent and skills as a seamstress to make the beautiful dresses for the annual historical Waco Cotton Palace Pageant. Since 1951 and until her retirement in 2004, she has sewn for a variety of clients. Over the years, Joan had the flexibility to pick and choose the amount of work she could handle and still have time to devote to her family.

She was preceded in death by her parents.

Joan is survived by her husband, Walter Seeger of Woodway; sons, Robert Seeger and wife, Kathy of Temple and George Seeger and wife, Amy of Waco; daughters, Kathryn Mullins and husband, Chris of Sonora, California and Christine Bennett and husband, Wallace of Mansfield; brother, George Thomas and wife, Joann of Wisconsin; 11 grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to express their appreciation to the staff of Hillcrest Hospice, the staff of the 8th floor at Hillcrest Baptist Medical Center, the staff of the Renal Clinic, Dr. Ronald Wilson, Dr. Richard Gibney and Dr. Robert Go for their care and compassion throughout her illness.

In lieu of flowers, memorials can be directed to Trinity Lutheran Church, 10 Ritchie Rd., Woodway 76712 or Gideons International.
