Jo Ann Johnson was born on September 29, 1940 in McGregor, McLennan County, Texas to James Virgil and Edith Estelle Orr Johnson.
Funeral will be 2 pm Thursday, January 4, 2024, at the First Methodist Church of McGregor.
She lived in McGregor most of her life. Jo Ann, a Baptist, attended McGregor schools. She received her G.E.D. from McLennan Community College in Waco, Texas.
She married James Edward Cox on May 10, 1963 in Temple, Bell County, Texas. She worked at The McGregor Mirror in McGregor, Texas from 1967 until retiring in December 2003. She was one of the few women Linotype operators in the United States and then a computer typesetter and make-up artist for the newspaper.
She was preceded in death by her two babies, Glenda Ann Evans and Veronica Ann Evans; parents, James Virgil Johnson and Edith E. Orr Johnson; son-in-law, Ralph Fales; ex son-in-law, Gene Garrison; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Ed and Myrtle Sensibaugh Cox; grandparents, John Blona and Mamie George Orr and Neal William and Pearl Wood Johnson; great-grandparents, John and Mary Ann Bell Mobley Orr, Will and Ida Bowen George, W.A. and Mary Lou Dennis Johnson and William and Ada Beal Wood; great-great-grandparents, Willis and Temperance A. Bean Orr, George Harrison and Eppse Matilda Attkins Bowen, Alemont and Mary M. Wood and Ewel and Frances Sadler Beal; great-great-great-grandparents, William Beal and George W. and Jane Pruitt Bowen; great-great-great-great grandparents, Woody and Nancy Pruitt Bowen; and great-great-great-great-great grandparents, Sterling and Susannah Meredith Bowen.
Survivors include two daughters, Gwen Cox and Donna Cox Fales and her fiancé, Danny Gribble; three grandchildren, Amy Lawrence Morgan and her husband, Billy Morgan, Aaron Gene Garrison and his wife, Jessica Martinez Garrison and Kelly Lynn and her husband, Markus Smith; and seven great grandchildren, Hailey Marie Morgan, Joshua Ryan Morgan, Aiden James Morgan, Kylie Brooke Koehne, Kaleb Aaron Garrison, Karah Josephine, Garrison, and Lacee Lynn Smith.
