Joe Hill Ellis, 77, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, Dec. 4. Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at OakCrest Funeral Home with the Rev. Curtis Holland officiating. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the visitation.
Joe was born in McLennan County to Roscoe E. and Opal (McGary) Ellis. He married Loyce Lowery on January 4, 1954 in Waco. We worked as a technician for the Brazos River Authority until he retired in 1984. He was a quiet man, but when he talked everyone respected his wisdom and sincere honesty. He could fix anything, and his friends could count on him for help whenever they needed it.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a brother, Charles Ellis; and two sisters, Annie Kisselberg and his twin sister, Joyce Helen Baty.
He is survived by his wife, Loyce Ellis; sons, Michael Joe Ellis of Hubbard and Jerry Ray Ellis and wife, Donna of Waco; daughters, Pamela Jean Gray and husband, Gary of Lacy-Lakeview, and Linda Carole Stroud and husband, Danny of Waco; sisters, Marion Taylor and husband, Donnie, and Dora Murphy and husband, Wayne, both of Bellmead; grandchildren, Brian Gray, Jason Ellis, Jeffrey January, Shannon Nichols, Carole Ellis, Kyle "Joey" Gray, Lauren January, Lisa Pierson, and Laney Pierson; two step-grandchildren, Samantha Stroud, and Colton Stroud, and eight great-grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Kyle Gray, Jason Ellis, Jeffrey January, Jimmy LaVelle, Brian Gray, James Conley, John Nichols and Aaron Schwieters.
