OBITUARY

Joe Ben Hogeland, 71, of Waco, went to see his Lord on Friday, October 8, 2004, at his home in the loving presence of his family. He bravely fought esophageal cancer for two years.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Van Vowell officiating. Burial will be at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 5-8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque. A memorial video of his life will be shown during the visitation.

Joe was born October 22, 1932 in Waco to Archie and Minnie Viola Hogeland. He graduated from Waco Tech in 1952. He was inducted into the U.S. Army in 1953 and honorably discharged in 1955. He was awarded a Korean Service Medal, U.N. Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and a Good Conduct Medal.

He married Savena Ramirez in 1965. They had four children. He loved his wife, children, and grandchildren. He also loved watching Westerns, listening to country music, and his cat "Earl." His presence will be missed by all who knew him. He also had a special affection for his nurse Charla Hughes.

He worked for TV Sales and Service in Waco for many years, and then for Hicks Rubber Company.

Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Lee Hogeland and Minnie Viola Good; his brother, Roy Hogeland; and his sister, Dora Vargo.

Joe will be missed by his beloved wife of 39 years, Savena Hogeland, who spent the last two years caring for him. He will also be missed by his children, Anthony Hogeland of Laguna Hills, Cal., Paula Hogeland Jones and husband Alan of Des Moines, Iowa; Nancy Hogeland Bates and husband Dennis of Waco; and Travis Hogeland and wife Jennifer of Waco; three sisters, Minnie Woodliff of Dallas, Nettie Gwin of Waco, and Mary Ann Meiers of Waco, and 10 grandchildren.

Pallbearers will be Henry Davis, Ronnie Whitlow, Lupe Hedary, Robert Gonzales, Larry Ruiz, and Melvin Henson.

The family appreciates Hillcrest Community Hospice and Texas Home Health for their excellent care. Memorials may be made to Hillcrest Community Hospice.
