Joe Kenneth Sanders, 77, of Lorena, TX passed away Wednesday, March 26, 2014. Services will be 10 a.m., Monday, March 31, 2014 at The Fellowship Bible Church,
5218 Speegleville Rd, McGregor, TX 76657, with Pastor Grant Kaul officiating. Burial will follow at Lorena Cemetery. Visitation will be 3-5 p.m., Sunday, March 30, 2014, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Joe was born June 4, 1936 in Mexia, TX to Charlie and Lillie Richmond Sanders. Joe served 3 years active duty in the Marine Corps, he spent 2 years in Korea and was in the active reserves for 5 years. After being discharged from the military, he began work for Pacific Bell Telephone Company, Sears, and Xerox Corp. He then became a business owner of Joe Sanders Jewelers in 1976. He also served as Mayor of Lorena, twice, and then served on the Lorena City Council for several years. He became the Municipal Court Judge in 1988 and remained in that position for 27 years. Joe’s accomplishments include: President of The Board of Directors for Central Texas Hospice, VFW Commander, member of the George Denton Masonic Lodge for 50+ years, a member of the Eastern Star and established the Greater Waco Young Marines.
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Clyde Sanders; sisters, Alvera Sanders, Katherine Caine and Joyce Pace.
Survivors include his beloved wife of 45 ½ years, Jewell McPeek Sanders; sons Ken Sanders, and wife Missy, Steve Dye and wife Dawn; daughters, Ruth Danielson, and husband Dennis, Linda Kempe and husband Jerry, Beverly Martin, and husband Ronnie, Deborah Sredanovich, and husband David, 13 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
