Joe F. Walla, 75, of Waco, passed away Monday afternoon, Dec. 2, 2002, at his home. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Friday, Dec. 6, at 11 a.m., at St. Louis Catholic Church with Monsignor Mark Deering officiating. The rosary will be recited at 7 p.m., Thursday, Dec. 5, in the chapel of OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Visitation with the family will follow.
Mr. Walla was born February 17, 1927, in West to Joseph and Albina Marek Walla. He married Barbara Sue Eison on June 9, 1956 at St. Mary?s Catholic Church in Waco. She preceded him in death on April 5, 2002. Mr. Walla was retired, and was a veteran of Korean War having served on the USS Tortuga. He had lived in West and Waco all of his life. He was a member of St. Louis Catholic Church. He enjoyed the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting, and was an avid gardener. He was featured in the newspaper several times for his gardening and fishing abilities.
He leaves a son, Joe W. Walla of Waco; daughters, Sharon Boothe and her husband Kent of Lorena, Lisa Gohring and her husband Bill of Lorena, Donna Kilpatrick and her husband Alex of Round Rock, and Brenda Barth and her husband Brian of Flower Mound; grandchildren, Megan, Amanda and Robbie Gohring, Jonathan and Kevin Boothe, Adam and Sanders Kilpatrick, and Brianna Barth; sisters, Rosalie Walla of West, Josephine Ames and her husband Bob of Richardson; Mary Ann Hopkins and her husband Charles of Temple; Delores Quinn and her husband Frank of Dickinson; a brother, Charles Walla and his wife Karen of Centennial, Colorado.
