John H. Hicks of Waco died Saturday, April 21, 2007 at his residence.
Graveside services will be conducted at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday, April 24, at Crawford Cemetery. A memorial service will follow at 2:00 p.m. at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. David Story officiating.
Visitation will be Monday, April 23, from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring John's life will be shown during the visitation.
He was born in Waco on March 4, 1932 and is a graduate of the 1950 class of Waco High School. John attended the University of Texas at Arlington, East Texas State University at Commerce, Baylor University, and the Dallas Institute of Mortuary Science.
John proudly served in the US Army in Panama during the Korean War.
In 1956, John returned to Waco and began working for Hicks Rubber Co. In 1963, John began a long and distinguished career as a licensed Funeral Director in Waco. He touched the lives of thousands of families in his nearly 40 year career. Throughout John's career he carefully followed the philosophy of Roy Hatch in that no request from a family was too much trouble.
John's loyalty and dedication to his work was admired by his family, friends and co-workers, and help set the high standard of care for generations of new funeral directors.
John is preceded in death by his parents, Edgar A. Hicks and Jo Shelby (Brown) Hicks and his brother, Jim Hicks.
John is survived by his wife, Elaine; sons, David (J.D.) Bost and wife Chassie of Crawford, Carter Hicks and wife Misty of Waco and Danne Raborn and wife Agi of Germany; daughters, Cathleen Brewer and husband David of Barry, Texas and Lorri Bujard of Waco; sisters, Mrs. Bert (Joanne) King of Waco and Mrs. Charles (Peggy) McGregor of Waco; 15 grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of friends. John is also survived by his beloved dog, Heidi.
Pallbearers will be his sons, David (J. D.), Carter and Danne and grandsons, Kevin Brewer, Joshua Bost, Jerimy Bost and Cody Bujard.
Honorary pallbearers will be Charles McCoy, Larry Lawson, Aurelio Garcia, Bill Coleman, Shelby King, Mike McGregor and Murray Burton.

Services are under the direction of Lawson Funeral Home of Meridian and OakCrest Funeral Home of Waco.
