John Jones

Kenneth Jones, 89, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, December 21, 2010 at his residence. Graveside services will be 11:00 a.m. Thursday, December 23, 2010 at Waco Memorial Park followed by a Memorial service at 1:00 p.m. at Lakewood Christian Church, 6509 Bosque Blvd, with Rev. Jack Mullins officiating. Visitation with the family will be 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Kenneth was born April 5, 1921 in Waco to John James Jones and Geraldine Edwards Jones. He graduated from Baylor University in 1938 and was a member of the Delta Sigma Pi fraternity. He then served his country in the US Army from 1942 until 1945 in the 8th Air Force and upon his return home, he worked for the William Cameron Company. Kenneth married Dorothy Gassaway June 12, 1947 in the sanctuary of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church. Kenneth was employed with Frank Smith & Sons Properties until his retirement in May 2010. He then went to work for Island Plastics and Plantation Foods offering his expertise in the accounting departments. He was a member of the National Accountant's Association, Waco Scottish Rite J H Gurley Lodge, Karem Shrine, Royal Order of Jesters and a 32nd degree Mason. Kenneth was a charter member of Lakewood Christian Church where he served as a deacon and served on the Board as Treasurer.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Dorothy; sisters, Janice Josephine Jones and Eloise Tegen.

Kenneth is survived by his daughter, Janice Kriegel; and nieces and nephews, Sharon Menn, Sondra Weaver, Mary White, Mellina Stucky and Terry Gassaway and others.

Pallbearers will be Lance Menn, Cullen Menn, Parker Menn, Dick Taylor, Langston Wood, Gordon Hill, Jimmy Morgan and Robin Chapman. Honorary pallbearers will be Jack Jeffrey, Chuck Herty, Fred Radle, Bill Dyess, Buck Bigham, Joe Smith, Howard Smith, Ralph Post, J. W. Collins and Frank Karaffa.

The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Providence Hospice, Dr. Howlett, Dr. Oishi, Dr. Allison and his Visiting Angels, Meme, Kathy and Christine for their care and compassion during dad's illness.

Memorials may be directed to Lakewood Christian Church, the Cameron Park Zoo or the Waco Humane Society in Kenneth's memory.
