John Ortega Liendo
February 4, 1942 - May 24, 2024
John O. Liendo, a beloved uncle, cousin, and friend to many in Waco, passed away peacefully on May 24, 2024, at his home with niece Stephanie Liendo by his side. John was born on February 4, 1942, in Speegleville to Saddey Ortega and Bill Liendo.
John was employed at several places including the Raleigh Hotel, Baylor University, Cox’s Dept. Store, and retired with Maintenance of Buildings with McLennan County in 2008.
John was one-of-a-kind with a heart of gold. He was loved by everyone he encountered especially his nieces, nephews, and his furry pup named Duke who he loved dearly. John was among the kindest and loving souls you would ever hope to meet. Music was simply his therapy. He loved his 50’s Rock and Roll music and loved listening to his massive collection of 45’s on his 1942 Rock-Ola Jukebox. John also had a special hobby of collecting movie reels for his several owned Super-8 and 16mm projectors. It brought joy to his heart playing movies for the family such as the original black and white Heckel and Jeckle, Mighty Mouse, and of course his spooky movies like The Wolfman, (just to name a few). He loved to make people laugh by having jokes ready and would always tell wild stories that would make you question, “is this real?”
His absence leaves a big void that can never be filled and will always be missed by family and friends alike. We have peace knowing that he is reunited with his family that he missed so much who went before us including parents, Bill and Saddey Liendo; sister, Anita Veracruz; and three brothers, Bill Jr., Jesse, and Manuel Liendo, Sr.
John is survived by his aunt, Beatrice Liendo; sister-in-law, Mary Liendo; nephews, Manuel Liendo, Jr. and wife, Melissa, Frank Veracruz, Michael Veracruz and wife, Blanca; nieces, Becky Lawing and husband, John, Stephanie Liendo and Enrique, Sylvia Zavala, Josephine Veracruz, Betty Lugo and husband, Sergio; great nephews, Manuel Liendo, III. and wife, Myra, Roman Contreras (aka Suga Daddy), and John Carlos Liendo; great nieces, Gia Liendo, Amanda Rosales and husband, Josh, and Kristole Diaz and husband, Esteban. John is survived as well by numerous great–great nephews and great-great nieces and many cousins.
John will be missed by all that graciously knew him.
Pallbearers; Raul Rodriguez, Manuel DeLeon, Felix Suarez, Manuel Liendo, III., Roman Contreras, and Henry Gonzales.
