Mr. John Earl Potter, 61, of Waco, passed away Tuesday, September 30, 2008 in a Waco hospital.
Services
Services will be 3 p.m. Thursday, October 2, 2008 at OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel. Burial with military honors will follow at Oakwood Cemetery.
Visitation
Visitation will be from 7 p.m. – 9 p.m. Wednesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A Memorial Video honoring his life will be shown during visitation and before the service.
Biography
John was born September 6, 1947 in Hobart, OK., to John T. and Opel (Clark) Potter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam conflict.
John moved to Waco in 1981, and on April 16, 1982, he was married to Sandra Hockenberry. For 13 years, they were foster parents for over 60 children and adopted three of the children themselves.
He was a loving husband and father, best known for his dry sense of humor. John enjoyed the outdoors, especially camping and fishing. For 37 years he worked for the Coors Distributorships in Amarillo and Waco, and later for Glazers Distributing where he retired in July as divisional sales manager due to his health.
John was dedicated to his job, and he especially liked being a personal mentor to his employees.
John will be truly missed by his many friends and his beloved family.
Survivors
John is survived by his wife, Sandra; his family, including Brian Dallas, Tracy George and her husband, Daniel, Richard Potter, Matthew Potter, Wynonna Potter, Erica Potter, Shawna Dallas, and Gina Demmey; his two sisters, Donna Jean Dailey and Sharon Weaver and her husband, Clinton; grandchildren, Travis Dallas, Zakk Dallas, Gunner Dallas, Danielle Dallas, and Tyler Potter; a great-grandson, Micah Dallas; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers
Pallbearers will be Phil Meacham, Gregg Cockrell, Bill Butler, Jon Lamar, Ed Nesrsta, and Jamie Sparks.
Dale Reed will serve as honorary pallbearer.
