Johnnie Sauls

Johnnie Ray Sauls went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, June 30, 2010 surrounded by his family. Services will be 2 p.m. Saturday, July 3, 2010 at the OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation with the family will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, at OakCrest Funeral Home.

Johnnie Ray was born November 8, 1937 in Waco. He graduated from Waco High School in 1955 and married Barbara Deaton in 1956. He worked for Southwestern Bell for 38 years and after retiring, he and Barbara enjoyed living and working in Yellowstone National Park. He was past vice president of the Communication Workers of America and a member of the Brazos Club of Telephone Company Pioneers and Chalk Bluff Baptist Church. Johnnie Ray was an avid hunter and enjoyed following his grandchildren to their many sporting events and visiting with his morning coffee drinking buddies.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Cleo Fern Sauls; son, Bobby Lee Sauls; and his two beloved pets, Jewel and Prissy.

Survivors include his loving wife, Barbara; father, Johnnie Sauls and wife, Wanda; children, Terry Sauls and wife, Denisha of Sasche, Gary Sauls and wife Gayla of Hewitt, Larry Sauls and wife Lissa of Schertz, and Sherri Christensen and husband, Paul of Crawford; grandchildren, Jennifer Gilliam and husband, Luke, Candace Myers and husband, Zack, Stacy, Jonathan and Nathan Sauls, Holly Russell and husband, Cary, Wesley Sauls, Elaine and Andrew Sauls, Heather, Nickie and Erica Vick, Brian, Derek and Tanner Christensen; two great grandchildren, Caroline Gilliam and Megan Myers; his beloved dachshund, Puddin; and many, many friends.

Pallbearers will be Johnnie Ray's seven grandsons.

The family wishes to thank the caring staff of Bluebonnet Health Services for their kindness and support.

In Lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to the American Cancer Society or Chalk Bluff Baptist Church.
