Johnny Ray Lowery
March 8, 1929 - April 18, 2012
Johnny Ray Lowery, 83, of Waco, went to be with the Lord and his loved ones who were patiently waiting for him in Heaven on April 18, 2012. Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday at OakCrest Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Rosemound Cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Friday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Johnny was born on a farm outside Aquilla on March 8, 1929 to Percy M. and Ruby J. Lowery. He worked for Big Red for 45 years, and retired in 1992. He was a loving, devoted family man. His mother passed when he was 15, leaving Johnny and his father with 7 other children. Johnny went to work to help with the other children. He raised and took responsibility for his younger siblings. Even through all the marriages and children, illnesses and deaths, he took care of his siblings and their children. He loved his family. He loved hearing from his nephews and nieces about their accomplishments, and his great grandsons about their powers on the baseball field. He was an avid Baylor Football fan. He never missed a football home game. Even after his son graduated from LaVega High School, Johnny was still on the sidelines. He loved his football.
There will be great rejoicing in Heaven when Johnny joins those that have gone on before him. He was preceded in death by Percy and Ruby Lowery; his sisters, Joyce LaVelle and husband, Jimmy, Pansy Hecksher and husband, Bill, Mildred Goss and husband, Jimmy, Linda Dillon; brothers, Kenneth Lowery and wife, Nellie; niece, Melanie Lowrey; and nephews, Randy Goss, Dale Goss, Joe Ellis, Jim Dillon and Jerry Ellis.
He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Doris; sons, James Conley, Jr. and wife, Jean, and Chuck Ellis and wife, Becky; grandchildren, Michael Mullins, Michelle Caldera Sanchez and husband, John, William (Billy) Caldera and wife, Shannon, Matthew Caldera; his great grandchildren, Ciana Sanchez, John Sanchez, Brayden Gant; sister, Loyce Ellis; brother, Bob Claar and wife, Pattie; nephews, Jimmy LaVelle, Bobby, Marty, David, Johnny Heckscher, Michael Ellis and John Dillon; nieces, Kim Goss Makovy and husband, Darrell, Judy Havens, Lauren Charles, Pamela Ellis Gray and husband, Gary, Donna Ellis, Linda Ellis Stroud and husband, Danny, Britany Goss, Ashley Moody and husband, Brett, Shane Goss and wife, Jennifer., Debbie Gurley and husband, Tom, Brittany Anne Gonzalez and husband, Andres, Barbara Quigley and husband, Cort and Karla Goss; He is also survived by many, many, many grand and great grand nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
The family would like to thank the staff of The Atrium for all their loving care and the Providence 4N Hospital for their loving care. The family will be at 1325 N. 66th.
Pallbearers will be Jason Ellis, Jeff January, Jimmy LaVelle, Michael Ellis, Michael Mullins, William Caldera, and Matthew Caldera.
Honorary pallbearers will be Darrell Makovy and Darrell Makovy, Jr..
