Josafat Garcia, 88, of Waco, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2008. Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Wednesday at St. Francis Catholic Church with Msgr. Mark Deering as the celebrant. Burial will follow at Oakwood Cemetery. The rosary will be recited at 9:45 a.m. prior to the start of the mass.
Visitation with the family will be from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Josafat Garcia was born November 14, 1919 in Waco to Delfino and Antonia Castillo Garcia. She attended Waco public schools and graduated from Waco High School in the class of 1939.
She worked for Buchanan's Laundry for 30 years in the linen department. She also worked at their sub-station at Baylor University. She made many friends with the students and their parents, who all knew her as Miss Josie.
She was a great cook and was known for her famous fruitcakes. She loved music and took private singing lessons with Miss Rosa Baade. She was once invited to perform in Dallas, Texas to sing for the Consul of Mexico. Miss Garcia was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church before moving to St. Louis Catholic Church and was a member of St. Veronica's Circle.
She was preceded in death by her parents; sister, Mary G. Guerrero; and a brother-in-law, Angelo G. Guerrero.
She is survived by two sisters, Miss Nicolasa Garcia and Miss Maria Natalia Garcia of Waco. She is also survived by several cousins and adopted nieces and nephews.
The family thanks all of their friends who have helped them so much during her illness.
