Joe Bittenbinder passed away peacefully June 2, 2012, after a brief battle with cancer. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Thursday, June 7 at St. Louis Catholic Church by Father John Guzaldo. Burial will follow at St. Mary's Cemetery in West.

Visitation will be 5 -7 p.m. Wednesday, June 6, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, in Waco, with the rosary being recited at 6:30 p.m. by Msgr. Isidore Rozycki.

Joe, the youngest of 6 children, was born March 29, 1932 in Mott, ND to Eva and Michael Bittenbinder. He moved to Waco in 1951 where he served four years in the Air Force. Joe married Mary Francis Vrana in 1954 and remained in Waco.

Following his military service, Joe spent five years in sales in the fields of life insurance and later farm equipment. In 1966, Joe began his career as a real estate appraiser. He worked as a staff appraiser for the Texas Highway Department, then as manager of an Appraisal Service subsidiary for Waco Savings and Loan. In 1985, Joe established Bittenbinder Appraisals, where he continued as an independent fee appraiser until 2011. Joe held both the SRPA and SRA designations.

He was also an active member of St. Louis Catholic Church and served as a member of Council 1358 of the Knights of Columbus.
Joe will be remembered for his love of 4th of July parties, polka music, and his vast collection of unframed family photos. He was a master of candid photography.

Joe is preceded in death by his mother and father; his sisters Susie Huschka and Rose Goetz; and his step brothers, Phillip and Peter Schemberger.

Joe is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, Mary ; three children : Tim and wife Moni, Tom and companion Claude Sooter, Sharon Reeves and husband Sam; along with four grandchildren: Millie, David, and Clint Bittenbinder and Kyle Reeves. Joe is also survived by his sister Polly Lokken and brothers Carl and Frank Bittenbinder.

Pallbearers will be David Bittenbinder, Clint Bittenbinder, Mike Lokken, Doug Wolf, Keith Vrana and Scott Vrana.

Honorary pallbearers will be Bob Wolf, Willis Lokken, Dave Bittenbinder, Albin Petter, Charles Gauer, James Keltner, Ralph Adams and John Dickson.


In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Msgr. Mark Deering Scholarship Fund at Reicher Catholic High School, 2102 N. 23rd Street, Waco, TX 76708.
