Juan Martinez

Juan Martinez, 87, of Waco passed away Wednesday, January 21, 2009 at a local care facility.
Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated 10 a.m. Friday at St. Francis Catholic Church. Burial with military honors will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 6 pm – 8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. Thursday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring his life will be shown during the visitation.
Juan was born in Chilton to Epfanaio and Tiofila Martinez. He served in the Army during World War II. He married Anita Ortiz and they spent over 55 years together. He was a loving Husband, Father, Grandfather, Brother, Uncle, and friend.
Juan was a very talented carpenter and painted the priests' home. He was a devoted grounds keeper for the Santa Rosa Cemetery where his parents and family members are buried.
He loved music and sang and played beautifully. He was a member of St. Francis Catholic Church, Santo Nombre, Holy Name Society, Knights of Columbus, and Cursillo. He helped repair and renovate the St. Rita Catholic Church in Satin in 1987. He worked for 20 years with the Texas Highway Department, retiring in 1987.
Juan was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 55 years, Anita Martinez; four brothers, Victorio, Jesus, Jose, and Ambrosio Martinez; and two sisters, Lazara Martinez and Francisca Mendoza.
Juan is survived by his son, Jesse Martinez and wife Cristalyna of Cedar Hill; daughters, Virginia Eubank and Esther Kudiba of Michigan; grandchildren, Benito Carrizales, Alicia, Juan, and Joe Martinez of Cedar Hill; a sister, Nancy Arriaga of Waco; and many nieces and nephews.
Pallbearers will be Jovita Mendoza, Stevie Mendoza, Jo Vic Martinez, Johnny Herrera, Benita Carrizales, and Jesse Mendoza.
The family especially thanks the Martinez, Mendoza, Ortiz, and Lopez families and Providence Hospice for all their help, care and concern.
