Julie Connell, 88, of Hewitt, passed away Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Stoney Brook of Hewitt. Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. Terry Graham officiating. Entombment will follow at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum. Visitation with her family will be 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. Monday, June 3, 2013 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.
Julie was born December 1, 1924 in Crowell to F.J. and Della Halencak. She graduated from Crowell High School in 1942. Julie married Melton Ollen Connell in Quanah, Texas on August 14, 1947. She trained as a nurse and later became a Registered Medical Secretary, Office Nurse and Doctor’s Assistant having worked for Dr. Philip Ross for over 30 years.
She spent her life serving Jesus, her family and friends. She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Her faith to her Lord and spending time with family was always her first priority. Julie was a member of First Baptist Church Woodway since 1958 where she taught Sunday school for 40 years sang in the Sanctuary Choir, Senior Adult Choir and worked with WMU.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 63 years; four brothers; four sisters; and her precious daughter-in-law, Cindy Connell.
Julie is survived by her son, Michael Connell; granddaughters, Cari Edison and husband, Ricky and Dr. Cayce Connell; grandson, Chance Connell and wife, Paige; great grandson, Mase Edison; great granddaughters, Murphee Edison and Cara Beth Connell; sister, Jo Wilbanks; and her brother, Raymond Halencak.
Pallbearers will be Mark Tynes, Woody Rogers, Gaylan Beavers, Dink Hunnicutt, Brian Boyd, David Price, Dennis Myers, Chance Connell and Dr. Ricky Edison.
The family would like to express their appreciation to the staff at Stoney Brook of Hewitt, Providence Hospice, Visiting Angels and Dr. David Myers. In addition, the family wishes to thank the Deacons and church family of First Baptist Church Woodway for their love and support and to Lavonne Sosebee for her loving care of Julie.
