Katherine DiMaria

Katherine Cardonia DiMaria, 88, of Waco, passed away Wednesday, June 13, 2012, at St. Catherine's Care Center. Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, June 16, at Holy Cross Cemetery in Waco with Msgr. Mark Deering officiating. Visitation will be 5-7 p.m. Friday, June 15, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Boulevard.
Katherine was born in Marlin to Joseph and Lena (Denena) Cardonia. She married Tony DiMaria on June 24, 1951 at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Bellmead.
Although primarily a homemaker, she and Tony were owner-operators of Jasper DiMaria & Son Bar-B-Q, a Waco landmark which was operated by the DiMaria family for 75 years at Clifton and Elm streets. Katherine was a member of St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Waco. She was active with the Ladies Auxiliary at Providence Hospital from 1965 - 2006, working 14,500 hours as a volunteer. She was especially well known for the silk flower arrangements she made for the hospital's gift shop.
Katherine was preceded in death by her parents, and her husband Tony who died in 2009.
She is survived by her son, Anthony J. DiMaria and wife Cathy of Anchorage, Ak.; three grandchildren, Christina Peterson and husband Kory of Norfolk, Va., Toni Lynn Griffin and husband Matthew of Seattle, Wash., and Carrie Elizabeth DiMaria of Anchorage, Ak.; a new great-grandchild, Emery Allen Peterson of Norfolk, Va.; and two sisters, Mary Green of Houston and Nelline Abshire of Maurice, La.
