Kathryn Henson, 70, of Waco, died Wednesday, May 16, 2012 at Providence Health Center. Funeral services will be 10 a.m. Saturday, May 26, 2012 at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. Burial at Lorena Cemetery will be private.

Kathryn was born December 5, 1941. She served in the US Army and upon returning home, she enrolled at Baylor University where she graduated with a degree in Journalism and Communications. She was a former employee of KWTX News 10 where she held many duties among managing the early morning show with Ralph Webb. Kathryn was very active in many civic activities including, the MDA telethon, Food for Families, Toys for Tots, Adopt a Unit and the Rotary Challenge Show. She was a US Army veteran, the DAV, VFW, AMVETS, and American Legion. Kathryn was the first woman commander of the Department of Texas Disabled Veterans from 1998 until 1999. She was active in helping veterans get their benefits and especially enjoyed working with the widows of veterans. She was also a member of the Waco Crime Stoppers Board of Directors and the Waco Regional Airport Advisory Board of Directors.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Henson.

Kathryn is survived by her son, Tony Newburey of Germany; Jessica Bell, who was like a daughter to Kathryn; Jake Gohring, her "son in law"; her Goddaughter, Kaeleana Ramirez all of Waco; her KWTX family; and a host of friends, including Bill Coleman and his daughter, Emily Coleman.
