Kay Markum, age 75, of Hewitt, passed away February 9, 2024, at Ascension Providence Hospital in Waco surrounded by loved ones after a brief illness. Visitation and viewing will be 8am to 5pm Saturday, February 17th at Oakcrest Funeral Home in Waco, Texas.
Kay was born April 24, 1948 in Slaton, Texas to Billy James and Cornelia Ross. The family moved to Southern California, where Kay grew up. She graduated from LaPuente High School in 1966.
In 1966, after Kay had a visit with relatives in Slaton, Texas she boarded a train to Los Angeles California, and that is where she met Ronnie Markum. They began their correspondence by exchanging letters and talking on the phone. Kay and Ronnie fell in love and were married on October 3, 1967. They remained married for 56 years until her passing.
Kay was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, and grandmother. She loved nothing more than spending time with her husband, children, and grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Billy James and Cornelia Ross, and her brother, Billy James Ross, Jr.
Survivors include her husband, Ronnie of Hewitt, Texas; brothers, Lewis Craig Ross and wife, Eve of Hewitt, Texas and Larry Russel Ross of Salado, Texas; daughters, Shelley Markum and spouse, Erin of Waco, Texas, Ronda Murphy and husband, Robert of Pearland, Texas, and Crystal Blattel and husband, Jeremy of Harker Heights, Texas; and grandchildren, Anastasia, Vivian, Hayden, Morgan, Robert Dean, and Kinley.
