August 5, 1927 - March 19, 2010

Kenneth Eugene Hinds, 82, of Waco, passed away Friday, March 19, 2010 at home surrounded by his loved ones.

Services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday at OakCrest Funeral Home with Chaplain Merry Wilburn officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd.

Kenneth was born August 5, 1927 in Mart to Wilford Wiley and Ruby Leona (Davlin) Hinds.

He married the love of his life, Ruby G. Broughton, on February 28, 1956 in Waco. Kenneth was a kind and gentle man who was tender hearted, with a lot of love for his family.

He served in the Navy as a cook / baker from May 25, 1945 to September 19, 1949. His military honors were the World War II Victory medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, Asian Pacific Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and China Service Medal. He attended East Junior High School in Waco and later worked many years at Oriental Rug Company.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby and parents.

Kenneth is survived by three daughters, Shirley Lyman and husband, Allen of Waco, Jan Ortega of Waco, and Vickie Hinds of Waco; son, Richard Hinds and wife, Rocki of Gatesville; grandchildren, Amie Dusek, Amanda Click, Cory Ortega and Ruby Diane Hinds; great-grandchildren, Kaleb , Kristion , Hunter , Atyana Click, Nicholas and Maddison; two sisters, Susie Johnson and husband, Kenneth of Waco and Elaine Rye of Waco; numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

A very special thanks to our Angel, Rose McIntire, for her tender care of both Ruby and Kenneth. We are truly blessed to have her with us. Also a special thank you to Providence Hospice for helping us during this difficult time.
