Larry Warren

Larry Franklin Warren, longtime Waco resident, passed away Thursday, April 27, 2017. Services, with military honors, will be held Tuesday, May 2 at 10 am at the Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel, with Randy Wilson officiating. Burial will immediately follow. Visitation will be Monday, May 1 from 5 to 7 pm at the funeral home.

Larry was born in Weslaco, Texas on December 25, 1926, to R.W. Jr. and Winnifred (Smith) Warren. He and his family moved to Waco in 1941, where he attended South Junior High School and Waco High School, graduating in 1944. He played French horn in the WHS orchestra and was also a member of the marching band. Following graduation, he immediately entered the U.S. Navy, serving during World War II in the Pacific theater.

Following the war, he returned to Waco where he attended Baylor University. He was employed for several years at L.L. Sams Church Manufacturing Company and following that as a general home remodeling contractor and property manager until his retirement. He was particularly generous with his time and skills, participating in many activities as well as serving and assisting many needy individuals in the community.
He was a long time member of Columbus Avenue Baptist Church and First Baptist Church, Woodway following its establishment. Further enjoyment in his life was participation in the Shriners, VFW and other veteran organizations, Texas Border Volunteers and the NRA. As a fun-loving individual who loved life, fishing, hunting, adoring his grandchildren, and playing pranks, he will join in heaven his many friends and relatives with whom he cavorted during his life. A devoted Christian and family man, he always took the time to be with his family members throughout his entire life.

He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Harry; and sister, Marjorie and her husband, Dr. Bland Schwarting of San Antonio, Texas.

He is survived by his wife of 67 years, Barbara Lu (Boone) Warren; daughter, Terry Michalka and husband, Richard of Florence, Texas; two granddaughters, Heather Wilson and her husband, Blake of Waco, and Lauren Michalka of Florence, Texas; brother, Bill and sister-in-law, Sara of Waco; and numerous nieces and nephews.

His family is particularly appreciative of the love and caring provided by the Providence CHF Clinic and the staff at Regent Care.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial donations be made to Shriners Hospitals for Children, organizations serving veterans, or a charity of choice.

Serving as pallbearers: Richard Michalka, Paul Michalka, Bland Schwarting, Jr., Blake Wilson, Bryce Machleit, Spencer Jefferies, and Greg Stone.
