Larry E. Weyer, 76, of Marlin, Texas, passed away in his home on Wednesday, November 20, 2024 with loving family by his side.

On Monday, November 25, family and friends are invited to meet at the parking lot of Golinda Baptist Church on Highway 77 at 1:30 pm for a funeral procession to Powers Chapel Cemetery near Rosebud. The Falls County Sheriff’s Office and Patriotic Guard motorcycle veterans will lead. An Army Honor Guard will render honors at the cemetery for his service in Vietnam. A short graveside service will follow.

Larry was born on Monday, October 18, 1948 in Houston, Texas to John Thomas Weyer, Sr. and Rita Marie (Keefe) Weyer. While in high school, Larry took a job with the Houston Post. While working at the Houston Post it was his job to go to the hospital and photograph newborns for the newspaper notices announcing a birth. He did this daily before school. Larry was a graduate of San Jacinto High School.

After high school, Larry moved to Marlin, Texas and married Deana Casey on November 24, 1973. He joined the Army and served in Vietnam. Following his service, he returned to Houston where he remained until 1978. He then moved to California where he worked as an engineer specializing in cathodic protection. Larry enjoyed camping whether it was in a tent or later in his travel trailer. He visited many state and national parks as this was something he enjoyed.

In 2018, he returned to Marlin, Texas where he lived out the remainder of his life at his home in the country. Larry enjoyed putting out birdseed and watching the birds and wildlife in his yard.

Larry had a variety of hobbies. He enjoyed traveling the back roads and seeing what there was to see. He especially loved to barbecue and enjoyed the food he would cook. He loved working with computers and had a lifetime love of photography. It was the simple things that he enjoyed.

Larry was preceded in death by his parents, John and Rita Weyer; brothers, Francis "Frankie" Weyer and Rev. John T. Weyer, Jr; and other family members and friends.

Those left to cherish his memory include his sisters, Flo Kroll and husband, Howard, Irene Weyer, and Connie Hughes; nieces and nephews, Nancy Moden, Lea Kluck and husband, Charlie, Shawn Hughes, and Brandon Hughes; great-nieces and nephews, Dylan Moden, Reese Moden, Clay Moden, MaKayla Moeller and husband, Ryan, Cheyenne Kluck, Kodi Kluck, Dakota Kluck, Zayne Sires and wife, Sarah, and Kimberly Hughes; great-great nieces and nephews, Parker Moeller, Rylee Moeller, and Theodore Sires; as well as several family friends.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to Providence Hospice and his caregivers, Heather and Caroline. We also would like to thank Dr. Jim Moshinskie, Luke Lunn, James Fine, and the staff of OakCrest Funeral Home for the care of our brother, uncle and friend.

Powers Chapel Cemetery

Family and friends are invited to join a funeral procession that will leave the Golinda First Baptist Church parking lot on Highway 77 in Golinda at 1:30 p.m. Monday, November 25. The Falls County Sheriff's Office will lead us to the Powers Chapel Cemetery in a route that will miss all the road construction on Highway 77. We will also be joined by the Veterans Patriotic Riders motorcycle group who will ride in honor of Larry. At the cemetery military honors will be rendered by the U.S. Army Honor Guard followed by a short family service.
