Lauri Nan (May) Smith, age 44, of Waco, passed away peacefully on Wednesday afternoon, September 26, 2007, at a Waco hospital.
The funeral service will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, September 29, 2007, at the St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 305 N. 30th Street at Waco Drive, with the Rev. Jeff W. Fisher officiating.
Burial will follow in the Lorena Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, Sept. 28, at the OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation.
Lauri was born in Waco on December 27, 1962 to Karl and Elsie Maddux May. She graduated from Reicher Catholic High School and Texas A&M University with a degree in Management. She successfully completed the requirements to become a Certified Public Accountant, a designation of which she was proud. She worked in Central Texas banking for many years and also worked in financial accounting positions for several local companies.
Lauri has been active with many local charitable causes including Junior League of Waco and Zoobilee. She was also active with St. Alban's Episcopal Church and School, St. Louis Catholic School, and Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. She had a passion for cats and loved cooking and traveling.
She was preceded in death by her father, Karl May.
She is survived by her husband of 20 years, Tom; daughter, Kelsie; son, Karlson; mother, Elsie May of Waco; sister, Karel Hoffmann and husband, Bill of Eastland; brother, Mike; niece, Ashley May of Lubbock; mother-in-law, Kay Smith of Waco; numerous cousins, and a large number of good and dear friends.
Pallbearers will be Bert Maddux, Butch Maddux, John Cathey, Mike Gerro, Alan Story, Mark Parker, Gary Merritt, and John Dickson.
Memorials may be made to St. Alban's Episcopal Church, St. Louis Catholic School, Zeta Tau Alpha Scholarship Fund, Lorena Cemetery Association, or the charity of your choice.
The family thanks Providence Hospital for their outstanding care of Lauri during her illness.
Lauri was an incredible wife, mother, and friend who will be sorely missed and never replaced.
