Lee Roy McDow, 77, of Lorena, passed away Saturday, January 17, 2009 at Providence Health Center surrounded by his family.
Services will be Tuesday, January 20, 2009 at OakCrest Funeral home with the Rev. Roy Marshall officiating. Burial will follow with military honors at Oakwood Cemetery. Visitation will be 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at OakCrest Funeral Home.
Lee Roy was born August 20, 1931 in Stigler, Oklahoma to Owen and Josephine McDow. He was raised and graduated high school in Dilley, Texas. In 1951, he married Lorene Ivy and together they raised 4 children. He served his country as a proud member of U.S. Marines during the Korean War. From 1983 until his death he was married to June Marlene Prestwood and spent many happy years together. Lee Roy worked in the sales and service industry his entire life. He owned and operated Lee Roy's Body shop and later worked for Maaco Paint and Body. He spent the later part of his career as a service writer for Frank Weaver Pontiac and at Cottonwood Golf Course for the City of Waco. He retired from the city in 2003. Lee Roy lived his entire life surrounded by his wonderful friends. He never met a stranger. He loved to fish and hunt, and always had a story. He spent many hours fishing with his son, Billy Joe. He loved race cars and never missed an opportunity to be part of the pit crew for his son Eddie. He enjoyed cooking and sharing recipes with his daughter, Mary and talking sports and hunting with his son, Johnie. Lee Roy was a member of the First Baptist Church of Hewitt.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, Estel McDow;grandson, Heath Bradley McDow; and his best friend and companion his little dog, Pepper.
He is survived by his wife of 25 years Marlene of Lorena; daughter, Mary Fowler and husband Milton, of Waco; sons, Johnie McDow and wife, Shari of San Antonio, Eddie McDow and wife, Mary of Waco, and Billy McDow and wife, Sherri of Waco; stepsons, David Tosh and wife, Lori of Georgia, Kennie Tosh and wife, Marlee of North Richland Hills, Tx; Fifteen grandchildren; 7 great grand children; brother, Tomie of Portland Oregon; and sister, Thelma of Poth, Tx
