Leona Simcik

Leona Mae (Burke) Simcik, 88, of Waco, passed away January 1, 2017, at a Waco nursing facility.
Visitation will be 10 am Friday, Jan 13, at St Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church. The rosary will be recited at 10:30 a.m. The mass will start at 11 a.m. followed by burial at Holy Cross Cemetery.
Leona was born in Greenleaf, Kansas, to Michael and Mae (Diedrich) Burke. She was married to Ernest Simcik in Manhattan, KS, on November 17, 1956. For 12 years she worked for McLennan County, first as a bailiff for Judge Ray Mormino, then in the law library at the McLennan County Court House. She was a faithful member of the St. Mary of the Assumption Catholic Church in Waco where she served as a Eucharist Minister and was active in the St. Mary’s Guild for many years.
She was preceded in death by her parents; son, Matthew; four sisters, Nellie Martin, Leota Waddell, Marie Braddy, and Madeline Neenan; and brother, James Burke.
She is survived by her husband of 60 years Ernest; two sons, Richard E. Simcik and wife Minnie and Chris D. Simcik and wife Amy; a daughter, Madeline D. Villarreal; two grandchildren, Evan Simcik and Rose Simcik; two step-grandchildren, Marianne Salinas and husband, Chris, and Adam Reid; and two step-great-grandchildren, Nathan Salinas and Gabriella Salinas.
