Linda Kay Cox, 79, died Monday, November 6, 2023, after fighting a long battle with her health. She was
surrounded by her five children at the time of her death.
A celebration of her life will be conducted at 11:30am on Monday, November 13, 2023, in a graveside service at the historic Johnsville Cemetery in Johnsville, Texas where the Cox family legacy had its humble beginnings in the mid 1800’s. Linda’s son, Jeffery Jason “JJ” Cox, Pastor of North Shore Church in Montgomery, Texas will be officiating the celebration of her life. Honorary pallbearers will be Linda Kay’s grandsons, Aaron Fullerton, Chandler Walden, Tyler Bolfing, Josh Bolfing, Brian Cox, Stone Cox, Brock Bolfing, Jake Cox, and Caleb Cox. The sprinkling of rose petals will be conducted by Linda Kay’s granddaughters and great granddaughters, Brittany Collins, Casey Zeptner, Shelby Brosang, Tory Cox, Brooke Hanna, Rachal Cox, Maggie Cox, Lillian Collins, Sophia Collins, Addie Covey, Brynn Covey, Mackenzie Fullerton, and Kaylee Brosang.
Linda Kay was born March 14, 1944, to Irene and Raymond Stone of Mineral Wells, Texas. Linda was the
oldest of two children.
Linda Kay was married to T. C. “Skip” Cox on August 26, 1962, in Mineral Wells, Texas. Skip and Linda
Kay are the proud parents of five children. Skip and Linda Kay were able to raise a beautiful family that
extended beyond the five children that includes 16 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren with two
more great-grandchildren on the way. Linda Kay was always a mother to anyone who crossed her path.
Between Skip and Linda Kay, there were many students, friends, and friends of friends who became
family.
Linda Kay was preceded in death by her husband, Skip Cox; her parents, Raymond R. Stone and Irene
Edna Stone; her brother, Reginald R. Stone; and her sister-in-law, Leslee Kay Huggins.
Surviving children and family members:
Linda Kay’s daughter, Shannon (Cox) Applegate is married to Craig Applegate and lives in Waco, Texas.
They have three children, Brittany (Walden) Collins, Chandler Walden, and Jessica Gillen. Brittany and
Joe Collins of Herriman, Utah, have two daughters, Lillian Grace and Sophia Jane. Chandler and Mary
Walden, of Blanco, Texas have a baby girl on the way, due in March 2024. Jessica and Byron Gillen, of
Riley, Kansas have a daughter, Riley Baklarz who lives in Brandon, Mississippi.
Linda Kay’s son, Troy Cox is married to Beverly Cox and lives in Blooming Grove, Texas. They have three
daughters, Casey (Cox) Zeptner, Shelby (Cox) Brosang, and Tory Cox. Casey and Connor Zeptner, live in
Blooming Grove, Texas. Shelby and Nelson Brosang, of Tyler, Texas, have one daughter, Kaylee and have
another baby on the way, due in May of 2024. Tory Cox just graduated from Texas A&M and lives in
College Station, Texas.
Linda Kay’s son, Kyle Cox is married to Abbye Cox and lives in Abbott, Texas. They have four children,
Aaron Fullerton, Rachal Cox, Brian Cox, and Caleb Cox. Aaron and Kristi Fullerton, of Waco, Texas, have
three daughters, Addie Covey, Brynn Covey, and Mackenzie Fullerton. Rachal Cox lives in Waco, Texas.
Brian and Abi Cox, of Hillsboro, Texas, have one son, Logan. Caleb Cox lives in Abbott with his parents.
Linda Kay’s daughter, Gailey (Cox) Bolfing is married to John Bolfing and lives in Montgomery, Texas.
They have four children, Tyler Bolfing, Brooke (Bolfing) Hanna, Joshua Bolfing, and Brock Bolfing. Tyler
and Lakeyn Bolfing, of Waco, Texas, have one daughter, Brett. Brooke and Harrison Hanna, of Lubbock,
Texas, have one son, Stetson. Joshua and Dani Bolfing live in Lafayette, Louisiana. Brock Bolfing attends
Stephen F. Austin University in Nacogdoches, Texas.
Linda Kay’s son, JJ, is married to Stephanie Cox and lives in Montgomery, Texas. They have three
children, Stone, Maggie, and Jake Cox. Stone and Sarah Katherine Cox live in Midland, Michigan. Maggie
Cox attends Louisiana State University in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Jake Cox lives in Montgomery with his
parents.
Linda Kay has a “daughter of her heart”, Lorre (Huggins) Brock, who is married to Reb Brock of Belton,
Texas. Lorre is the daughter of our beloved Leslee Kay Huggins, Skip Cox’s sister. Aunt Kay was more
like another mom to the Cox kids. Lorre is like another sister to the Cox family.
Linda Kay also has three surviving “sisters of the heart” including Judy Shubert who is married to Bobbie
Shubert, of Durham, North Carolina; Ann Pruett who is married to Gene Pruett, of Granbury, Texas; and
Peggy Duke of Rhome, Texas.
Linda Kay also has celebrated her brother, Reginald Stone’s family as her own. These family members
include Daniel and Tina Marie Stone, Justin Stone, Sierra Stone, and Linda Stone.
For those wishing to celebrate Linda Kay’s life, a graveside service will be held at Johnsville Cemetery in
Johnsville, Texas on Monday, November 13, 2023, at 1130 a.m. After the graveside service, there will be
a picnic on the grounds of Johnsville Church of Christ. Linda Kay wanted an old-fashioned family
fellowship, so bring your chairs and some good conversation. Let’s Celebrate!
