Linda Gayle (Smith) Malone, of Ft. Sumner, New Mexico, passed away on July 2, 2016 at Providence Hospice Place in Waco after a courageous battle with cancer.
She was born on January 14, 1938 to J.W. and Vera (Wampler) Smith. She graduated from Floyd High School in Floyd, NM in 1955. She worked for many years at the True Value in Ft. Sumner, owned by the Eastwood’s and the Thomson’s. Before retirement, she was the manager of a convenience store in Ft. Sumner.
Her parents and her brother, James W. Smith, preceded her in death.
She is survived by her brother, Harley Newt Smith and wife, Cathy of Hewitt and their family; sister, Rhonda Jay Holcomb and husband, Johnny of Farmington, NM and their family; her best friend, Inky Thomson of Ft. Sumner; along with many other relatives and friends.
Visitation will be at Chavez Funeral Home, 830 N. Fifth Street, Ft. Sumner, NM on Friday, July 8, 2016 from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m. Services will be held at Ft. Sumner Cemetery on Saturday, July 9, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.
Pallbearers will be all of Linda’s nephews.
In lieu of flowers, memorials in Linda’s name can be sent to Providence Hospice Place, 6700 Sanger Ave., Waco, Texas 76710.
The family would like to thank Dr. Thomas Harris of Texas Oncology and Providence Hospice and Providence Hospice Place, all in Waco for the excellent care Linda received.
