Lloyd Lewis

Lloyd Lewis Jr., 90, of Waco, went home to be with his Lord Jesus Christ after a brief illness on Friday night, January 28, 2011. Services will be 2 p.m. Monday, January 31, 2011 at OakCrest Funeral Home with Rev. David Story officiating, followed by burial at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Lewis was born in Shreveport, Louisiana to Lloyd Lewis Sr. and Katie Gillis Lewis. A graduate of the University of Houston, he received his bachelor's degree in journalism. He was an Army veteran of WWII and discharged as a sargent. He married Chick Brown in Waco August 15, 1948 at Central Christian Church. Mr. Lewis retired as salesman from the Lone Star Gas Company having worked there for approximately 30 years.

Lloyd and Chick served the Lord for 52 years as a member of Richfield Christian Church. His love for the Lord was demonstrated in many ways, but his greatest passion was serving the Gideon International chapter here in Waco for over 20 years. He never left a restaurant table without leaving the waitstaff a New Testament stuffed with the tip. His Christian walk was humble and intentional.

A man with a great sense of humor, he always had a new joke to tell and kept his family and friends laughing throughout our years together. He will be deeply missed.

As a younger man his talent in art was expressed with oil paintings and later as a wood worker. Many a home in the area have a wood carved Jesus plaque still hanging on the wall.

Mr. Lewis was preceded in death by their oldest daughter Penne Self.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Chick; daughter, Nancy Rood and husband Doug, all of Waco; grandchildren, Lindsey, Benjamin, Elizabeth; and great granddaughter, Mary Adeline.

Memorials may be made to the Gideons International, or Richfield Christian Church.
