Lou Jean Doak
February 7, 1924 – January 16, 2009

Lou Jean Doak broke free from the bonds of Alzheimer's disease on January 16, 2008 and entered into the kingdom of Heaven.

Services will be 11 a.m. Monday, January 19, in the Mausoleum Chapel of Waco Memorial Park with Rev. Stephen Ramsdell officiating. Visitation with her family will be 4 p.m. – 5:30 p.m. Sunday, Jan. 18, at OakCrest Funeral Home, 4520 Bosque Blvd. A memorial video honoring her life will be shown during the visitation.

To her family and those who knew the real Lou Jean, she was full of energy, a perpetual shopper, lover of people and always displaying her beautiful smile. We rejoice at her relocation and eternal peace.

Lou Jean was born on Feb. 7, 1924 in Valparaiso, Indiana where she and her family lived throughout her youth. She met a sailor boy by the name of Steve in 1944 while she attended a business college and upon his discharge from the Navy in 1945, they became quite enamored with each other and were married on May 19, 1946.

Lou Jean experienced life to the fullest and enjoyed her role of being a friend to many.

Through many moves due to Steve's employment, she made friends from Michigan to Florida to Georgia to Indiana and back to Texas who corresponded with her even through this past Christmas. She was a realtor in Indiana and had a remarkable talent in taking short-hand as she served a variety of businesses in a secretarial role throughout her working years. Her love for golf is legend for those who played with her.

Up until Alzheimer's robbed her of the ability to do so, she was an active member of the Waco First United Methodist Church and dearly loved her Sunday School class.

She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Steve Doak; one son and daughter-in-law, Jim and Donna Doak; granddaughters, Stephanie Doak of Arlington, TX and Samantha Urbantke and husband Tab of Rockwall, TX, along with two great grandchildren, Doak and Claire Urbantke.
