Lucia Ibarra Benavides

Lucia Ibarra Benavides, of El Salvador, passed away on September 25, 2024 at her home surrounded by her closest loved ones. Visitation will be from 6:00-8:00pm on Sunday, September 29, 2024 at OakCrest Funeral Home in Waco. Services will be held at 11:00am on Monday, September 30, 2024 also at OakCrest Funeral Home with Pastors Angel Alvarado and Meredith Casas officiating.
Lucia was born on December 13, 1938 in El Salvador to Antonio Ibarra and Catalina Benavides. She migrated from El Salvador in the 1980’s fleeing the Civil War and worked tirelessly for over 25 years at the Waco Pear Factory as a seamstress.
Lucia was a tenacious, firm and strong daughter, mother and grandmother, who wore her heart on her sleeve and who sacrificed plentifully for her loved ones. She lived by a motto, “Amor no quita conocimiento” meaning “Love does not remove awareness” She always stood firm and strong despite the difficulties in her life.
She is survived by her son, Rene Alberto Joya, Concepcion Ibarra, Maria Elena Hernandez, Jose Alvarez, and Manuel Zuleta; grandchildren, Edgar Joya, Mayra Vargas, Iban Joya, Alexis Joya, Lucia Alvarez, Manuel Zuleta Ibarra, and Jonathan Zuleta Ibarra; great-grandchildren, Anthony Joya, Laurel Joya, Liliana Joya, Eddy Joya, Gustavo Adan Vargas, Isaac Vargas, Christopher J Vargas, Caleb Joya, and Levy Joya.
The family would like to extend special thanks to Baylor Scott & White Hospice who provided excellent care during such a difficult time. Also, to all the family and friends who demonstrated love and support throughout all these years.
