Major (Retired) Charles “Chuck” F. Frost, 91 of Waco, went home to be with the Lord on Thursday, November 6, 2014.
Memorial services will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, November 13, 2014 at the OakCrest Funeral Home Chapel, 4520 Bosque Boulevard, Waco, with the Rev. Mark Wible officiating.
Interment with military honors from the U.S. Air Force will be at 3 p.m. Thursday at the Central Texas Veterans Cemetery in Killeen, Texas.
Chuck was born February 9, 1923 in New Milford, CT to Willis and Ruth Frost. He had two brothers, George and Bill, and a sister Ethel.
He graduated from New Milford High School in 1940. After graduation, Chuck ran the family dairy farm while his brothers were away at war.
In August of 1950, Chuck was able to pursue his love of flying by enlisting in the U.S. Air Force. He was an experienced pilot who flew many missions during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He achieved the status of flying over 100 reconnaissance missions in Vietnam and became a member of the elite River Rats.
Chuck received numerous medals and commendations including the Silver Star.
After 20 years with the Air Force, Chuck retired and worked for the FAA for ten years. He settled in Waco but continued his love of flying as a flight instructor and designated pilot examiner.
Second to flying, Chuck’s other love was fishing.
He enjoyed summer vacations in Lake City Colorado with his wife June and family. There was always competition for who caught the biggest fish. Chuck also loved taking his boat out on Lake Waco and trying his luck there.
Chuck met the love of his life, June E. Warnock, and married her in November 1954. They enjoyed traveling together in their motor home and spending time with family.
Later in life, Chuck accepted Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior and served Him faithfully. Both Chuck and June were active members of Highland Baptist Church in Waco. Chuck served as an usher for many years and member of Bible Study Fellowship. He was involved with many charity organizations such as Wings for Christ, Senior Kiwanis, Experimental Aircraft Association, Mission Aviation Fellowship, and Friends for Life to name a few. His active involvement in outreach included acting as a scribe in the “Passion Play” in Russia in 1993. At age 78 in 2001, he traveled to the Congo to help build an airplane hangar for local missionaries.
Chuck was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend. As many will attest, he never knew a stranger and was always ready to lend a helping hand to those in need. His generosity knew no bounds and he showed great patience in teaching others. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, siblings, loving wife June, and step-son Wade Lehman.
Survivors include his daughter Debbie and husband Albert Jones, step-daughter Rita and husband Butch Whitehead, step-son Gary Lehman and wife Mary. Grandchildren, Traci Donaldson and husband Stephen, Emily Jones, Jeff Whitehead and wife Lisa, Joe Whitehead and wife Kim, Chris Whitehead and wife Tessie, Kimberly Blann and Husband Ashley, Robin and Diane Lehman; and 12 great-grandchildren.
The family would like to extend a special thanks to Uni Murphy and staff at Lakeridge Healthy Living and Bluebonnet Hospice for providing excellent care at such a difficult time. Also to Dr. Michael Burbidge and staff, who has seen Chuck for many years, the love and faith you have shown him is a precious gift in our life for which we are eternally grateful.
In addition, thank you to the staff at Providence Park Retirement Community where Chuck enjoyed many years and the wonderful friends he made while there.
